what are you dancing with…

Kevin A. Parido

Dancing.  I am not good at it.  I have the proverbial two left feet.  So anytime, that I participate in a dance of some sort, I am the mercy and guidance of the one leading the dance.  I pay attention to the one I am dancing with and I imitate their moves.

I allow the one who is leading, to do exactly that, lead.

Here is the danger:  in this dance, I am trusting the other will not misguide me.  To dance with another, you must trust.

This leads me to the question:   What are you dancing with?

I see many of people today that are dancing with fear.  They have chosen – some intentional, most I believe unknowingly-  to dance with fear.

Fear comes in many, many forms:

We fear not being enough.

We fear not having enough.

We fear for our security.

We fear for our wellness and health.

We fear for our family.

We fear for our world.

We fear for our friends.

We fear __________ (insert your fear of choice here).

When fear is our dance partner, dread is the music.  Worry is the decorations of choice.  Fretting and fusing are the steps we follow.    Anger is always nearby watching this the dance unfold.

Fear, when leading does not take us to the places we really are meant to go as people.  Again – I am talking about the fear that panics, worries, frets, fuses, cusses and dreads.  (I am not talking about healthy fear -known as respect and honor – that is due God and others in human authority over us)

When fear leads, it leads us to nasty and dark places.  It does not lead to life and wholeness and goodness, but to places and spaces that we should not go.

Check your dance partner.  See if you have been dancing with fear.

To be driven by fear leads to death.

To be lead by love leads to life and life to the full.

18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear expects punishment. The person who is afraid has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love because God first loved us.

— 1 John 4:18,19

Choose love as your dance partner.

Love drives out fear,

kp
